Our Commitment

St. Louis Teacher Residency works to address educational inequity by ensuring that students in St. Louis have effective teachers.  We know that this work is only possible when a diverse group of educators and stakeholders work together, with a shared mission and values.  To achieve our shared vision, St. Louis Teacher Residency operates with the following beliefs:

  • Diversity is critical for successful education efforts and outcomes.  Classrooms and schools must be shaped and led by the communities most impacted by educational inequity. Because educational inequity in St. Louis is  so closely tied to racial inequity, STLTR prioritizes racial diversity and representation across all aspects of our organization.

  • Our work can only be successful when we cultivate an inclusive community that recognizes and values the voices, roles, and contributions of our stakeholders and communities.

  • Educational equity can only be achieved when students and educators receive what they need to develop their full potential. Pursuing equity requires that we interrupt inequitable practices and implicit biases, including those resulting from historical and structural policies.
